Pierre Obando’s paintings, meditated by dot matrix rendering techniques, invoke newsprint and computer imagery that has been enlarged as if under a magnifying glass. It is as if anything that enters into the work must be converted into an accumulation of dots. The work is completed by the eye of the viewer as it follows the lines and forms in the paintings. The mechanical and anonymous qualities of the often appropriated sources are internalized by an individual sense of touch and invention.

Pierre Obando was born in Belize City, Belize, and is living and working in New York. He completed his MFA at Hunter College (New York) in 2001, and his undergraduate degree in Painting from the New World School of the Arts (University of Florida), Miami, FL in 1997. Obando has been showing his artwork since 2000.
