“These works have both power and elegance. His capacity to handle steel has a grace that makes such work seem easy to achieve… His strength and sense of beauty makes it obvious to me that John Clement is a talented and important artist”. – Mark Di Suvero
Protégée of two of North America’s most important constructivist sculptors, Mark di Suvero and John Henry, John Clement has rightfully earned his own place on the international art map. Reductive, curvilinear forms created of playfully colored rolled steel mark Clement’s sculptural aesthetic. Each piece originates from the gestural markings in his paintings and drawings and read as floating objects with implied movement. John Clement was inducted into the 2005-2006 Vancouver International Sculpture Biennale and followed with an exhibition of three monumental works at the gateway to Beverly Hills on Santa Monica Blvd in the City of West Hollywood, CA. From Macon Georgia to Sunnyvale, California, from Houston Texas to Staten Island, New York, John Clement has had numerous public installations nation wide. He was invited to participate in the 22nd Sculpture Biennale in Ube, Japan, a sculpture exhibition in Saint Urban, Switzerland and a piece was purchased for an international sculpture exhibition in Zhengzhou China. ART IN AMERICA annual review featured John Clement’s “Squeeze”, that was on public display in Palm Springs, CA, as one of the top 10 notable Public Art installations of 2007.
